Registrations & Statutory Returns

The licences a growing business collects — obtained and kept alive.

Overview

About this practice area.

Every growing business accumulates registrations: a trademark to protect the brand, an IEC to trade across borders, EPFO once the team crosses the threshold. The firm obtains these registrations end to end and handles the periodic compliance each one creates — because a registration that lapses for want of an annual confirmation costs more than it ever did to obtain.

01

Search before filing

Trademark clearance searched first — brands are not built on contested marks.

02

Kept alive

IEC annual confirmations and EPFO monthly ECRs tracked so registrations never lapse.

03

One window

Identity, premises, and bank proofs assembled once, used across registrations.

What We Cover

Scope, explained — with documents required.

Open any item below to see what it involves and what is generally needed to begin.

01

Trademark Registration

+

What is this

Search, filing, and prosecution of trademark applications before the Trade Marks Registry — selection of the correct class(es) of goods or services, filing of Form TM-A, responding to examination reports, and follow-through to registration.

Documents generally required

  1. The mark: logo image (JPEG) and/or word mark exactly as used
  2. Applicant details: PAN, address proof (individual / firm / company)
  3. MSME (Udyam) or Startup India certificate, if available — reduces government fee
  4. Power of Attorney (Form TM-48) in favour of the agent
  5. User affidavit with evidence (invoices, ads, packaging), if the mark is already in use
  6. Description of goods / services for class selection
Note: A clearance search before filing avoids the most expensive outcome — building a brand on a mark that is later objected to or opposed.
Documents may vary with the facts of each case. This information is general in nature and does not constitute professional advice.
02

Import Export Code (IEC)

+

What is this

Obtaining the Importer-Exporter Code from DGFT — the basic identifier required for importing into or exporting from India — along with linking to the customs portal and periodic annual confirmation/updation of IEC details.

Documents generally required

  1. PAN of the entity / proprietor
  2. Aadhaar of the applicant (for e-sign) or DSC
  3. Cancelled cheque or bank certificate of the entity's account
  4. Proof of business premises: utility bill / rent agreement with NOC
  5. Mobile number and e-mail ID for OTP
Note: IEC details must be confirmed/updated on the DGFT portal each year — an unconfirmed IEC gets deactivated even if nothing has changed.
Documents may vary with the facts of each case. This information is general in nature and does not constitute professional advice.
03

EPFO Registration & Returns

+

What is this

Registration of establishments with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation on crossing the applicable employee threshold (or voluntarily), generation of UANs for employees, and monthly ECR filing with payment of contributions.

Documents generally required

  1. PAN and constitution document of the establishment (deed / COI)
  2. Address proof of the establishment
  3. Details of employees: Aadhaar, PAN, bank account, date of joining, wages
  4. Cancelled cheque of the establishment's bank account
  5. Digital Signature Certificate of the authorised signatory
  6. Specimen signature and employer details
Note: PF contributions and the monthly ECR are due by the 15th of the following month — interest and damages on delay are levied automatically.
Documents may vary with the facts of each case. This information is general in nature and does not constitute professional advice.
